Mid Century Modern Furniture Restoration Specialists.
"We love MCM furniture and pour that love into the restoration of each and every piece that comes to our studio." -Gary LeClerc (owner of [RE]new)
For over 30 years, we have been the restoration studio that mid century modern furniture owners, collectors and dealers have trusted to handle their treasured pieces. We take the time and the care to restore these fabulous pieces back to the condition our clients wish for. There are times that we are simply asked to remove the existing finish only. In other cases, we are asked to leave the existing finish, but to tighten up loose joints and make a piece structurally sound. In many cases, we are asked to fully restore a piece back to a condition and state that will look beautiful and last for many years to come. We pride ourselves in the client experience we focus so much energy on. Though we are aware that price is important, we are much more concerned with providing our clients with an exceptional final result and an experience that will be refreshing compared to other firms.. With a client waiting list which usually extends to six months in advance or more, we believe that we have established a reputation that speaks for itself and we look forward to working with you and showing you what so many have already come to believe.
For MCM Dealers
We work very hard to accommodate our strategic dealer partners ahead of our standard waiting list schedule because we are in a sense "producing" your products. We are deeply committed to developing business friendships with our strategic dealer partners. This is done through establishing and maintaining a very high level of trust and reciprocal commitment to each other's success and growth.
A Client’s Story: ORIGINAL GEORGE NAKASHIMA DINING SET
Our most cherished family heirloom is the dining room table set that was purchased from George Nakashima’s studio in New Hope, Pennsylvania in about 1965. My mother and father bought it for their new home in Connecticut, along with a sideboard, coffee table and two stools. The dining room table and wicker chairs, all in walnut, were the centerpiece of our family’s home for 50 years, until my father died in 2015. The table and chairs were placed in a sunny spot for more than a generation and had faded badly.
When I inherited the set, I searched all over southern New England for someone who could restore such an important (not to mention valuable) set of furniture. I finally settled on Gary LeClerc at [RE]new. When I spoke with him on the phone, not only was he familiar with Nakashima’s work, but seemed genuinely excited about working on a piece by such a prominent woodworker. Sensing his passion for his work in general and this set in particular, I hired him to restore it all. As you can see from the photos, he brought it back to its former glory by repairing the damaged chairs and refinishing the table from top to bottom. Nearly every time I eat on it, I think of how proud my parents would be that their beloved dining table set, where so many family memories were made, has been lovingly restored and is now making new memories. Gary did an amazing job and it was refreshing to work with someone who cared as much about my furniture as I do. - Christopher W.
John @johnslivingroom (Instagram) "After doing this furniture thing for a while I realized that if I’m refinishing a piece I’m not out finding the next one. I started looking for a refinisher and it was much harder than expected. High costs, slow turnaround and mediocre results were not what I was looking for. Since I found Gary and [RE]new, I felt like I added a teammate! His work is impeccable, affordable and delivered when promised. His woodworking skills have saved a number of pieces that were beyond my capacity to fix. I’d recommend him unconditionally and often do!"
Matt @queensmidcenturymodern (Instagram) "We’ve trusted [RE]new with several high end projects from Hans Wegner to Fritz Hansen and the results have been amazing. Gary understands the importance of not only finishing my personal projects but also those of my clients. He is thorough from project start to finish and provides frequent updates. Gary presents me with a project estimate before work begins which helps keep me within my budgets. [RE]new is a partner we can rely on and we are looking forward to working together more in the future."
Dave @yourshouldknollbetter (Instagram) "As an antique dealer, I come across a variety of different items that I need help restoring and bringing back to life. Each piece has its own individual set of challenges since they are typically 40-70 years old. One thing my business and [RE]new has is common is our desire to do things correctly. This means paying attention to very small details, respecting the originality, and not just band-aiding a problem. When you choose to work with a small business, it’s important to find someone who is passionate about what they do. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring any project to Gary."
